For Lenny: Episode 12
I'm sending this album out into the world with joy, thrills and humbling gratitude. Making this record has been a journey of discovery and a labor of love. I've learned so much, about Leonard Bernstein, man and musician, and about the legacy we're celebrating now on the 100th anniversary of his birth. This is a celebration of his creativity, humanity, generosity of spirit, and courage of conviction. All of these things live on in Bernstein's music, and in the work he did, tirelessly and passionately, to share truth and beauty as broadly and deeply as possible.
The world of American music, the world of music, the world as I know it, would not be what it is without the vision and mission he set for himself during his lifetime and left for us to continue after he was gone.
I can't find the words to express my thanks to everyone who has helped this ambitious, very personal project come to life.... The Bernstein family, my family of collaborators, performers and composers, who brought their talent and passion to this music, my family and friends who have helped me, held me up and supported/tolerated my obsession with getting this right and making it the best it could be.
Many, many miles and hours have gone into the making of this record! It has been well worth the journey. I hope you love this music. It comes straight from my heart - for Lenny, with love.
