CONCERTO REPERTOIRE

LONG TIME COMING

LTC_image_resized.jpg

LONG TIME COMING is an innovative new work for solo piano, Spoken Word artist and orchestra by composer David Sanford, celebrated as "the real thing, a composer in the American tradition of brash, open-eared exploration."

Inspired by and created as a modern day response to Duke Ellington's iconic 1943 fantasy work New World A Comin', Mr. Sanford's new composition draws inspiration from multiple musical genres to synthesize the diverse racial and cultural traditions that define contemporary American music - classical, jazz, R&B/funk, hip-hop and others.  Interwoven throughout the piece are the words of a young urban poet, reflecting on the power of hope in troubled times.

Lara is offering LONG TIME COMING as an individual piece, or in a combined performance with Ellington's New World A Comin'.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts plans to present LONG TIME COMING in November, 2011.
